Western red cedar wood is non-resinous and has a strong, spicy odor. Heartwood has great weather-resistant characteristics and ranges in hue from dark reddish brown to pinkish. Sapwood is a pale yellow wood. It is one of the lightest-weight economically important softwoods and has a wide range of applications. Western red cedar grows throughout the Pacific Northwest and down the Pacific Coast to Alaska. It is also known as canoe cedar, huge arborvitae, shinglewood, and Pacific red cedar. Western red cedar lumber is mostly produced in British Columbia and Washington, followed by Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. The heartwood of western red cedar ranges from reddish to pinkish brown to dull brown, while the sapwood is practically white. The sapwood is thin, often no more than 2.5 cm (1 in.) wide. The wood is often straight-grained and has a homogeneous but gritty texture. It shrunk very little. This species is lightweight, relatively soft, has poor strength when used as a beam or posts, and has low shock resistance. The heartwood is extremely resistant to deterioration. Chamberlain Timber Mart has developed to become Muskoka's leading supplier of cedar lumber. We can satisfy your 6-inches cedar lumber needs anywhere in Muskoka thanks to our truck fleet, which includes two boom trucks. We are proud to call Muskoka home and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
